Postkarte. Condition: Sehr gut. Postkarte von Jack Dempsey rückseitig mit schwarzem Stift handsigniert mit eigenhändigem Zusatz "Thanks & Good Luck".- William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey (June 24, 1895 - May 31, 1983), nicknamed "Kid Blackie" and "The Manassa Mauler", was an American professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926. A cultural icon of the 1920s, Dempsey's aggressive fighting style and exceptional punching power made him one of the most popular boxers in history.[2][3] Many of his fights set financial and attendance records, including the first million-dollar gate.[4] Dempsey is ranked tenth on The Ring magazine's list of all-time heavyweights and seventh among its Top 100 Greatest Punchers, while in 1950 the Associated Press voted him as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years.[5] He is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and was in the previous Boxing Hall of Fame.[2] /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// Standort Wimregal PKis-Box2-U024 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 10.

Postcard, laid down and matted, color, signed. Laid down, colors bright, slight aging; otherwise very good plus. Dempsey was born in Manassa, Colorado on June 24, 1895. He started out as a nomadic traveler from 1911 to 1916, and began boxing in the small mining towns of Colorado under the name "Kid Blackie." He emerged from numerous saloon floor-boxing matches with over 80 professional fights by the time he was 24. Dempsey was perhaps best known for his thrilling knockout victories, many of which occurred in just seconds of the fightâs onset. Dempsey won the battle of a "David and Goliath" match of fists when he beat Jess Willard in 1919, leaving the giant bewildered and shattered. This victory awarded Dempsey both the heavyweight title and the nickname of the "Manassa Mauler." He defended his title six times in seven years. However, on September 23, 1926 he was defeated by Gene Tunney and lost his heavyweight title. Tunney and Dempsey fought again in 1927, but would lose a controversial decision to Tunney. This fight was known as "The Battle of the Long Count" because of a call by the referee that Dempsey did not return to a neutral corner after Tunney had fallen. Many would believe that Tunney would have been counted out if the referee continued the count as he instructed Dempsey to go to a neutral corner. This postcard was from Dempseyâs restaurant in New York City, and is based on the painting by James Montgomery Flagg of the Dempsey Willard fight. Official Jack Dempsey Website.
