Hardcover. First edition. First printing [stated]. Based on the New York tribune account, by Tania Long, of the sinking of the Jervis Bay, November 5, 1940. This edition includes Mr. Fowler's poem and vivid newspaper account of the sinking. Mr. Fowler's full royalties and the publisher's net profits from this edition were donated to the Bundles for Britain fund. From Wikipedia: "HMS Jervis Bay was a British liner later converted into an armed merchant cruiser. She was sunk on 5 November 1940 by the German battleship Admiral Scheer. Gene Fowler (born Eugene Devlan) (March 8, 1890 July 2, 1960) was an American journalist, author and dramatist. He was born in Denver, Colorado. After a year at the University of Colorado, he took a job with The Denver Post. His assignments included an interview with frontiersman and Wild West Show promoter Buffalo Bill Cody. He established his trademark impertinence by questioning Cody about his love affairs. Subsequently, Fowler worked for the New York Daily Mirror, and then for King Features." Fair in fair dust jacket. Hinges weak. DJ has wear, soiling, tears and chips.
