This book is a raw, historically contextualized account of the trials of 19th-century American pioneers who faced repeated displacement and theft of their land. It is a story about what lengths those in positions of power would go to in order to steal the land of those deemed lesser, and how the justice system was used as a tool for that theft. From the plains of Iowa to the valleys of California, families were forcibly evicted from their homes and farms, and were forced to pack up their lives and move. The author does not shy away from the violence of these events, nor from the racism and greed that fueled them. This is an important read for anyone interested in the history of the American West and the ongoing struggle for land rights and justice. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
