KRUPP Aktiengesellschaft Das Direktorium" stamp detailing the purchase of weapons for Paraguay by part of Captain Manuel Duarte. When the president of Paraguay Gaona was deposed, and Dr. Cecilio Báez assumed the provisional presidency of the Republic, alarming news realized that Bolivia was beginning to found forts in the Chaco, along the Pilcomayo River. To foresee any possible subsequent confrontation, the Paraguayan Government took measures in this regard, one of these measures was to commission the Chief of Staff, frigate captain Manuel J. Duarte to acquire war material in Europe to equip an army of 10,000 men, ships for the navy and dredgers for the rivers. These documents sent to Duarte during his stay in Brussels realize this.
