Softcover with printed dustjacket designed by Henri Matisse, 256 pages with many tipped in plates; in French; very good condition, the dj is still very clean and crisp except for some scattered rubbing wear; the spine has light edgewear, a 1-inch vertical tear to top and bottom of front edge and a three inch vertical tear to bottom of rear edge as well as three full length light crease lines to center of spine; internally fine; no internal marks. The dustjacket is still in very nice shape despite these minor flaws.

Le Poète Assassiné was originally a book of short stories which took its title from its opening novella. Dufy had attended the launch party for the book organized by Paul Dermée and Juan Gris, at the Palais d'Orléans in Montparnasse on New Year's Eve 1916. In 1924 the Sans Pareil publishing house reportedly invited Picasso to illustrate a new edition of the story, but once again, two years later, it was Dufy who took on the job [.] The closeness of the working relationship between Dufy and Apollinaire is reflected thematically in the collector's edition of Apollinaire's Le Poète Assassiné, produced in 1926, 10 years after initial publication of the work and eight years after the poet's death" (Brown, pp. 4 and 24).
