Hard Back. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First Editiion. 262 Pages Indexed. Includes 10 pages of Chapter Notes. Appears to have never been read and with flawless interior text pages. At about 12 noon, August 2, 1876, James Butler Wild Bill Hickok entered the No. 10 Saloon in Deadwood City seeking entertainment and drinks. Three men were engaged in a game of draw poker and quickly invited Wild Bill to join them. Hickok had an unobstructed view of the front door and could comfortably turn his head to see the rear door. Jack McCall entered the No. 10 Saloon and when less than half a dozen feet from the rear door, McCall suddenly turned and fired one round. Death was instantaneous. The author of this book, Thadd Turner, lives the old west every day. He writes about the historic frontier characters and events that he personally has had the opportunity to relive through living history activities and re-enactments. Turner spent two years in Deadwood researching local sources and reading all available newspaper accounts of the time period for this book. It includes the best available description of the No. 10 Saloon interior floor layout, and the physical placement of all participants that were involved with the shooting of Wild Bill in 1876. A detailed analysis of the subsequent flight, capture, and trial of Jack McCall is also provided. Original photos and a new 1876 Deadwood City Main Street informational map are included. Contents in Eleven Chapters: Black Hills Gold, Wild Bill Arrives, Charlie Utter's Camp, The First That Died, Main Street 1876, Wild Bill is Shot, Deadwood City Trial, Location of the Trial of Jack McCall, Federal Trial and Execution, The Pistol Question, and Deadwood Days. Plus Foreword, Introduction, Acknowledgements, An Epitaph on Wild Bill, Preface, Epilogue, A Chronology of Wild Bill's Life, and Bibliography. Signed by Author(s).
