Upper hinge partially exposed, marginal loss to leaf R8, occasional light spotting. The second edition of an unusual travelogue by Welsh Baptist minister John Evans (1767-182…7), detailing a week's journey through the wealthy districts of Windsor, Richmond, Kew, and Twickenham. Evans' account stands out for its copious historical and critical detours, paying very little attention, in fact, to his own experiences; instead, much of the volume is taken up with discussion and anecdotal study of the historical figures, artworks, and buildings of architectural significance encountered upon his travels - notably including a diversion on patron of the arts Horace Walpole's (1717-1797) Strawberry Hill estate. Evans was a prolific writer for the Baptist cause, with over 40 recorded works to his name; despite his struggles with a progressive paralytic condition as he aged, he continued to preach, even without the use of his arms or legs, until weeks before his death.
