"Kent Annan left behind his comfortable life to face the world beyond its gates, where people wear his cast-off clothing and survival is an open question. Apparently, that was where God wanted him. Of course, just because God wants you somewhere doesn't mean it's going to be easy ." - from the rear outer cover. "Kent Annan will join the ranks of Don Miller, Lauren Winner and Shane Claiborne as one of our most gifted younger writers . No platitudes, no sentimentality, no euphemisms. Just an honest eye, sharp mind and human heart." - Brian McLaren, author and activist. "Kent Annan takes the reader on a ride through the hot spots of both this world and the individual's soul. By turns wrenching and funny, and always honest, his own story puts an unerring finger on that difficult place where a questioning mind and an open heart meet." - Greg Paul, author of God in the Alley. "This wonderful book is as much about faith and commitment and service and love and love of service as it is about the author and about Haiti. Please read it. You will be uplifted and you will be inspired, but most of all you will enjoy it." - Edwidge Danticat, author of Brother I'm Dying and The Dew Breaker. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kent Annan is co-director of Haiti Partners, a nonprofit focused on education in Haiti. He's worked in Haiti since 2003 - living there some of the time and now traveling there regularly from Florida, where he lives with his wife and two children. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Macdonald and James, London. 1978. 322 pages. First edition, first printing. Loosely laid-in is a hand-signed index card, signed by Ken Follett. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are sound. Pages and endpapers are clean. Original DJ is bright and attractive. DJ has no printed price on flap, which was intentional, as these copies were earmarked for export by the publisher. Priced and non-priced DJ are both accepted as first state DJ's. Book is essentially near-fine, with flaws limited to a couple of small bruises along panel edge. Storm Island is Ken Follett's first book which would go on to win the coveted Edgar Award. Thanks to the success of the film adaptation, Eye of the Needle, later copies would be re-titled Eye of the Needle. A very nice copy of Follett's classic, with flaws noted. First edition, first printing, with a loosely laid-in signed index card. VG+/NF. Signed by Author(s).
