Hardcover. Condition: Good. The Revised Platoon Exercise, dated Horse Guards 13th June 1854, has been embodied in this Edition of the Infantry Manual. Red cloth boards with blindstamped lettering to front. Boards are marked commensurate with age. Corners are bumped, edges are worn. Spine is age darkened with bumping to ends. Textblock is in good condition, clean and tight. Pagination: [xi], 118 pp. Ownership sticker to fep. Previous owner's mark to half-title page. Additional photos are available upon request. Condition: Good. Half calf, VG. xvi+336pp+63+8pp, 37 engraved steel plates on 29 leaves with 2 folding, musical staves of bugle calls, a few pages yellowed with age, a nice copy, save that pp 62 of the Catechism is half lacking. The field exercises were first revised in 1824 by Henry Torrens. This volume also contains an 8pp catalogue of Clowes Military books. Old ink signatures of H L Cocker [dated 1893] and Lt. Ed. Coker of the 17th Foot [dated Oct 1837] 550 grams. 2nd edition [first work] 2nd edition [second work].

Interesting reference building on the principles of the late General Sir David Dundas and Major-General Torrens. 336pp., 37 plates, 2 folding, table, three pages of bugle sounds, index. Some age related foxing and a few comments etc in margins, also interesting ownership inscription to Officer in the 72nd Highlanders. Bound in contemporary half leather, marbled boards, titled spine rubbed. Generally a very good example.

Condition: Very Good. 8vo, 16 preliminary pages, 335 pages, 12 folding plates at rear (some spotting of the plates, fore-edge of plate 6 creased and with edge tears and a tear across the surface of the plate, fore-edge of plate 7 creased with some edge tears), bound in 19th century half calf and marbled paper covered boards, spine gilt decorated, red leather title label, ink ownership inscription of Thomas Brooke, 4th Regiment, on title page and General Orders page, later book label of William Delafield on front free end-paper, binding and text pages in very good condition.

Hard Cover. Crown octavo, pp. xvi, 336. With 37 numbered plates as called for, several of which are double-sided, one of which is gatefold. Quarter calf with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled paper-covered boards. Calf scuffed, with crack to upper joint but holding firmly; minor loss at head of spine, and corners worn. Inner front hinge cracked, some corner-creasing to leaves. Numerous illegible ownership signatures in the same hand throughout; some marginal annotation, including 42nd Citadel Corfu. The 42nd (Royal Highland The Black Watch) were stationed in the Mediterranean, principally at Malta and Corfu through the late 1830's to mid 1840's. Detailed instructions to ensure the correct formation for exercises and inspections, with and without arms, and for the movement of battalions, brigades and lines including those for light infantry formations. Scarce.

Marbled quarter leather boards with a 1.5cms square rub damage to front board, very light foxing to a few pages and some pencil notes and a sketch of horse/rider by a knowledgeable reader o/w very nice copy.

Pp.xvi,336; 37 plates (2 folding) and 3pp. music showing 14 'Bugle Sounds'; contemporary half roan, ms. paper label rubbed & worn at edges, splits in backstrip but secure. Contemporary ownership signature & card of Captain Robert Shaw, Bengal Army.

Thirty-seven plates of diagrams, two of them folding. Some foxing and browning, a number of plates hygroscopically damped, but overall very good in contemporary half red calf on grained red cloth boards, a little rubbed, upper board with small mildly damped patch, bookseller's ticket of Morrow of Dublin to the front pastedown. xvi, 336pp. By Authority.
