There is much already known about the birds of Java and Bali and I have drawn extensively on published literature as well as on more up-to-date field lists and survey reports. For the basic information on Javan birds I am heavily indebted to the major work of Kuroda (1935, 1936) whose two volume com-pilation (in English) contains a wealt.
