Tom Mann (1856-1941), war ein Gewerkschaftsaktivist und sozialistischer Politiker, der 1889 den sogenannten New Unionism (mit-)begründete. Er war 1894 Gründungsmitglied der sozialistischen Independent Labour Party (ILP), deren Geschäftsführer er kurz darauf wurde. Der autodidaktische Arbeiterintellektuelle war einer der rührigsten und populärsten Vertreter der Arbeiterbewegung in Großbritannien und dabei Zeit seines Lebens ein tiefgläubiger Christ und Anhänger der Anglikanischen Kirche. Über längere Zeit setzte er sich für den revolutionären Syndikalismus ein, womit er einigen Erfolg vor allem unter den radikalisierten Transportarbeitern und den Bergleuten hatte. In der Ära des Labour Unrest vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg avancierte er zu einem der zentralen Streikführer. Mit anderen ehemaligen Mitgliedern der British Socialist Party, der er 1917 beigetreten war, initiierte Mann unter dem Eindruck der russischen Revolution 1920 die Kommunistische Partei Großbritanniens. Nach 1921 wurde Mann zum ersten Vorsitzende der britischen Sektion der Roten Gewerkschaftsinternationale (RGI) berufen. Plädoyer für den Industrial Unionism nach US-amerikanischem und dem Syndikalismus nach französischem Vorbild.
