Lady Sandwich was the wife of the 9th Earl of Sandwich, George Montagu, to whom this book is dedicated. She begins her letter to John Drinkwater by saying 'I love your book'.Volume 4 bears a swirling inscription to the front free endpaper which reads 'Daisy Kennedy Drinkwater (The copy given me in 1925 by J.
