The Editorial mission statement reads: 'The policy of Frameworks journal is to publish the theoretical work of artists together with contributions by philosophers and others whose work includes a study of art in a variety of conceptual frameworks. The purpose of this is to bring to bear 'external' criteria upon theoretical art-work and thus to provide a means of 'demarcation' of the activity, both 'externally' and 'internally'. In this way, it is hoped to put the new theoretical work of artists under the scrutiny of theoreticians whose disciplines have a long history of theoretical sophistication, and also, to correct certain ideas held to by theoreticians about art from outside the field by contact with the theoretical writings of artists themselves.'
