Presentation copy, inscribed by Bernard Darwin on the front free endpaper, "To G.M. from the author with his best regards. Sept. 1922." It was customary for Darwin to sign "from the author", which denoted a personal affiliation with the recipient. Rare and desirable, signed and inscribed.
