Add to basketsaying that although she has not "the pleasure of knowing" him, she takes "the liberty of asking you a favour - it would be to excuse me for keeping Mr Massy, finding myself alone and his company being very dear to me", and thanking him "in anticipation, being sure you will wish to grant me such a great favour", 1 side 8" x 5", no place but Caprera, no date but laid down by lower half, two short closed tears touching a few letters of text without loss A note signed by Mary Hebden on the verso explains that they received the letter "in 1867 when we were in Villa Cedro Sardegna and she was at Caprera. The Massy's were there on a visit". Caprera is a small rocky island in the strait of Bonifacio off the northern tip of Sardinia. It was the much loved home of Garibaldi from 1854, and he was buried behind the house. In 1885 the island was bought by the Italian government.

No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Autograph letter of Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) to István Dunyov, Hungarian freedom fighter, captain of the Hungarian army. "My dear Dunyov, I have received your letter and Mrs Voigtel's book - I thank you and ask you to convey my thanks to the very kind writer. I wish you a full recovery of health, always yours, G. Garibaldi" - In the bottom left corner, "I am sending you two pictures". This is certainly the German writer Valeska Voigtel Bolgiani, who became famous for her travelogues. Perhaps it is about her book on Egypt, published in 1869 (courtesy of László Pete). After his release from prison, he joined Garibaldi in Italy, with whom he became closely associated. He remained close to him even after most of the Hungarian émigrés had reconciled with the kingdom (he also broke off relations with Kossuth). Garibaldi liked him very much, made him a colonel and named a regiment after him. 13 III 1869 Caprera, 1 sheet, 1 inscribed page. ( O,O ) /)__) , , Inscribed by Author(s).
