Gray Cloth. Condition: Very Good+. No Jacket. First Edition. Hint of edge wear, gently scuffed, no dj, corners are gently rubbed, lightly shelf worn, overall a very clean used first edition! 455 very clean, unmarked and uncreased, historical and thought-provoking pages! This book is an analysis of a typical case of religious thought. The study of the religious thinking of Samuel Alexander is incidental to a larger purpose. The larger purpose is to analyze the intellectual problem which underlies all religion. To be sure religion is not merely an intellectual problem, any more than getting food for the body or establishing a home. But these all involve intellectual problems of great importance. If the intellectual problem is misunderstood in such wise that the proposed solution is confused or false, disaster may ensue whether it be a religion or food for the body or a home that is under consideration." Hardcover. Condition: Like New. [Association copy, inscribed by Patrick Lee Miller to William E. Connolly on front end page.] Hardcover. Good binding and cover. Clean, unmarked pages. x, 179 pages, 24 cm. Also includes handwritten letter from Miller to Connolly. "Becoming god was an ideal of many ancient Greek philosophers, as was the life of reason, which they equated with divinity. This book argues that their rival accounts of this equation depended on their divergent attitudes toward time." - Continuum Studies in Ancient Philosophy "William E. Connolly is Krieger-Eisenhower Professor in the political science department at Hopkins where he teaches political theory. His early book, The Terms of Political Discourse, was awarded the Benjamin Lippincott Award in 1999 as 'a work of exceptional quality that is still considered significant at least 15 years after publication.' In a poll of American political theorists published in PS in 2010, he was ranked the fourth most influential political theorist in America over the last twenty years, after Rawls, Habermas, and Foucault. His work focuses on the issues of democratic pluralism, capitalism, inequality, fascism, and bumpy intersections between capitalism and planetary amplifiers in climate change." - Johns Hopkins University.
