It is possible that Lord Hesketh was interested in the Hesketh Plot which is examined in one of Devlin's essays. A collection of nine essays by Christopher Devlin, with the overall theme of life in England during the reign of Elizabeth I and the struggles of the Catholic minority to restore their faith among the people. These essays, with an introduction by C. V. Wedgwood, cover the Gunpowder Plot, Shakespeare's faith as well as that of his character Hamlet, and the Hesketh Plot, among other historic events and people.
