Add to basketSigned across the back cover by Hamp and a constellation of stars from his orchestra: trumpeter Joe Newman, altoist Marshall Royal, and a trio of standout tenorists, Dexter Gordon, Illinois Jacquet, and Arnett Cobb (who obligingly dates his signature to "7/11/78"). Opportunities to obtain a smattering of signatures by Hampton alumni "gathered under one roof" present themselves but seldom. It is perhaps easy to forget how many household names of the jazz world passed through Hampton's band; Gordon and Jacquet were just teenagers when they joined, not doubt as a result of the policies of "the notoriously tightfisted Gladys Hampton [which] made the hiring of unknown youngsters a practical necessity" (American National Biography). 12-inch vinyl LP (MCA 510 140), new plain paper sleeve, original album cover. Just a little shelf wear to cover otherwise very good; disc in excellent condition.
