Soft cover. Condition: Very good+. Playbill with a attractive photo of Ginger Rogers on the cover, her signature on top of the photo in dark blue sharpie. It is in great condition, with very minor edgewear and toning to the pages. This is the October 1966 Playbill, the production peformed at the St. James Theatre. Ginger Rogers took over the role of Dolly from Carol Channing on August 9, 1965 and would stay with the show until February 27, 1967. Size: Octavo. Signed By Ginger Rogers. Book.

April 3, 1964 issue of Life Magazine signed by legendary musical actress Carol Channing. Folio, original wrappers, illustrated. Inscribed by Channing on the front cover which features a photograph of her performing in the 1964 Broadway musical Hello, Dolly!, "To Anne with XXs, Carol Channing." In very good condition. Based on a book by Michael Stewart, itself based on Thornton Wilder's 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, Hello, Dolly! follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, New York, to find a match for the miserly "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder. The musical debuted at the Fisher Theater in Detroit on November 18, 1963 and moved to Broadway in 1964, winning 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The role of Dolly Gallagher Levi was originally written for Ethel Merman but she turned it down, as did Mary Martinâ"although both eventually played it. Merrick then auditioned Nancy Walker, but he hired Carol Channing who created her signature role in Dolly.

Jane Kean, American actor who played Trixie Norton on the Jackie Gleason Show writes a fan letter to actress/singer Pearl Bailey for her role as Dolly Levi in "Hello Dolly!" 1 page, 8 1/2" x 11", Dated "Feb. 10th". Kean writes in part: "Seldom have I written a fan letter - that takes a lot, for a fella performer to do - but I've never been quite as thrilled as I was, by your performance Thursday night. You were so "in" that character that I weeped, when you pleaded with your dead husband to leave you alone - rather, to let you go. It was a delight and a new show - I felt as if I'd never seen it before. You are truly Dolly Levi ."Signed, "Jane Kean" Hello, Dolly! is one of the most popular Broadway musicals ever written. It swept the 10 Tony Awards (out of 11 nominations), a record that remained unbroken for 37 years, Bailey was Dolly in the an all-black production in 1967 and won a Tony Award for it.
