A facsimile of the original 1896 publication. The book begins with the history of Argenteuil, with some historical background, accounts of the earliest pioneer settlers, and sketches of the communities, and some of the settlers. The book takes on more importance as, in the 1980s, Quebec's counties were abolished, and replaced by Regional Municipalities. The same formula is repeated with Prescott. The book ends with pages of the adverts that appeared in the 1896 publication, followed by an index of names added by the present publisher. A near fine copy in unread condition. There is a smoothed-out crease on the rear cover.

Book in very good condition with slightly aged paper, minimal wear to covers and slight unfading. Many names have been underlined in the text. See photographs. Book 4156 location 1-5.

A reprint of an extensive history of Argenteuil County in Quebec, and Prescott County, Ontario. Originally published in 1896 by Montreal publisher John Lovell and Son. May require extra postage due to weight of book.

Montréal, Printed by John Lovell & Son, 1896, hardcover, original blue buckram with gilt lettering to spine, original endpapers, about 10 X 7 inches, (viii) - 665 (+ 4 pages of ads), illustrated with B&W plates. Our copy is in very good condition without noticeable wear except a ¼ inch tear to top spine and a major sunnying to spine. Gilt lettering to spine seems almost erased but still readable (see images), Interior is in excellent condition, clean, tight and solid showing only and old ex-libris on first endpaper, a tiny hole on the ffep and a few library marking on title page, and finally a light tanning to pages. A scarce book.
