Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Allen and Unwin 1937 1st printing of the 1st Edition. We are thrilled to offer the now super rare Hobbit 1st/1st with original dust jacket. It has some minor repairs to the spine head, but not extensively restored i.e. more than 1%-2% of the jacket, replacing whole sections of the jacket. Minor repairs also helps conserve the jacket from further damage especially when being pulled by the spine head from a shelf. We do not feel this impacts the future value of this copy which continues to rise. We believe we'll see a million dollar copy of The Hobbit, much sooner than later. It's public record one sold for £220,000 at auction last year and we sold one privately for around £210,000. We believe our asking price now is on-trend if not underpriced. There is another one of the market priced considerably lower which has extensive restoration as many that come on the market now do. We are happy to provide a COA with this copy authenticating it is original. As a specialist in the Tolkien market for 23 years, we have to be more careful of our reputation to stay in business another 23 years. This is a separate copy from my set of the first four Hobbit printings. (We are not splitting up that set). The jacket on this copy has some darkening to spine, but covers bright. The book has very slight lean, a little grubbiness to clothe edges, but pages clean overall with no foxing. Please ask for additional photos and any questions you may have. This book is needs no introduction or description to Tolkien or first edition collectors. The Tolkien market continues to dominate modern editions in demand and price thanks to another round of films and other projects in the works.
