Bildausschnitt ca. 10 x 15,5 cm. Abgezogen von der Original-Kupferplatte der Ausgabe 1680.- Die Marktgemeinde Hohenau an der March liegt im Bezirk Gänserndorf in Niederösterreich. Die Burg von Hohenau ist heute abgekommen. Die ursprunglich bedeutende und ausgedehnte Anlage ist im Süden des Ortes zu lokalisieren. Ab etwa der Mitte des 11. Jahrhunderts gehört Hohenau zum Grundbesitz des Klosters Niederalteich. Vermutlich gründen um 1060 die Grafen von Formbach die Siedlung Hohenau. Eine Kirche wird 1148 urkundlich genannt. Durch Rudolf von Habsburg gelangt der Besitz an die Kuenringer, die bis 1355 hier begütert sind. Die ursprünglich wohl hausbergartige Anlage wurde in der Neuzeit zu einem bastionär befestigten Schloss ausgebaut, das Vischer 1672 zeichnete. 1790 erfolgte der völlige Abbruch des Schlosses.
