Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Mankind has reached deep space. Separated from earth and each other by unimaginable reaches of space, forced to adapt to various diverse planetary environments the colonies have become isolated and inward looking, forgetting their pasts, losing touch with their humanity. Until a mysterious ship found locked in the deep rock by a mining team on a planet whose surface is drenched in lethal radiation sparks off a deadly conspiracy that threatens man wherever he is. After his grim dystopias set on a failing earth Roger Levy has spread his wings to give us a broad and exciting SF novel of exotic locales and mindblowing ideas without losing any of his trademark pyschological acuity and elegant style. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Original artwork by Levy, titled, signed, and dated 1964, depicting Icarus as a shattered figure plummeting earthwards. Original artwork by Levy is rare in commerce. Levy (1942-1968) was a leading figure in the Cleveland Mimeograph Revolution. From 1963 to 1968 his 7 Flowers Press and his publications The Marrahwannah Quarterly and The Buddhist Third Class Junk Mail Oracle printed the works of scores of Cleveland poets, including contributions from Bukowski and Ginsberg. The latter wrote with admiration to Levy in 1966: "Your energy is marvellous" (Trickey). In 1964, the same year as this painting was composed, Levy moved in with his friend Russell Salamon, a fellow poet and Levy's patron. Salamon endeavoured to support Levy, who was preoccupied with the idea of taking his own life, by encouraging him to keep writing, reading, painting, and publishing. The image of Icarus falling to his death is a poignant subject: this piece was composed four years prior to Levy's eventual suicide in November 1968, at the age of 26. Erick Trickey, "The Epic of d.a.levy", The Cleveland Magazine, 19 October 2007. Original illustration (275 x 210 mm). Black pen and brown ink on spiralbound notebook paper. Tape to verso of one corner, adhesive toning to others, one spot of foxing, creases where folded, else very good indeed, free from tears and chips.
