Hardback. Bound in decorative cloth with gilt fore edges, it has some wear and is dull, it remains sound. There is a touch of light foxing to the first and last few leaves, everything else is clean. Each diary page has five colour gilt illuminations. 365 coloured illustrations, [76], 76.

16mo, 104 x 67 mms., pp. [viii] 9 - 108, including half-title, title-page in red and black, full-page engraved frontispiecewith the recto of every leaf bearing four chromolithographic illustrations for a total of 365 illustrations, a faint note in pencil recording a purchase date of 1990, inscribed on recto of blank leaf before title -page, "Sarah Fulbrook/ with best wishes,/ from her loving/ friend/ Ruth Pope," several annotations in pencil on the interleave; bound in contemporary embossed cloth with title in gilt on front board and spine; corners and binding a bit worn, but a good copy. OCLC lists 8 copies of a Kirkus Technologies, Inc. reprint; and three copies only of Warne's sixth edition, in the Library of Congress and two at Manchester Metropolitan University. Library Hub adds Cambridge for this edition. The BL has copies of editions printed in 1872 and 1873, but no copies of this 1880 edition in any UK or Irish library.

Fourth edition. The Preface refers to it as a ÒPictorial EditionÓ that is Òin every respect equal to its predecessors, and in some points superior.Ó Though pagination differs between the 1872 edition (108 pp.) and the 1873 and 1874 editions (76 pp.), what textual differences there are between those editions and the fourth edition is something we cannot determine without being able to compare them. All editions are scarce, with OCLC recording a combined total of seven copies of the 1872, 1873, and 1874 editions, the majority of them in the U.K Twelvemo. 108 pp. Chromolithographic frontispiece and every page with four chromolithographic illustrations, each accompanied by a Bible verse. Every illustrated leaf is followed by a blank leaf, ruled in red and meant to be filled in by hand PublisherÕs brown cloth decoratively stamped in black and gilt, gilt spine. All edges gilt. Binding extremities a bit worn, spine slightly toned. Front hinge cracked, but sound. Light foxing, contemporary ink inscriptions on the blank leaves, with most of the writing space empty. A very good, tight copy.

IN THIS CONDITION, A RARE SURVIVAL.
