Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. MINT condition, still sealed. 266 pages, large hardcover in embossed boards, 11" by 9.75". Bilingual text in French and Portuguese. Rare book on French Art Deco designer Ruhlmann and his connection to Portugal, namely a visit by Portuguese royalty to the seminal 1925 Decorative Arts in Salon in Paris, and the subsequent design commission of Ruhlmann for the Casa de Serralves in Portugal. Extensively researched and exquisitely printed, with generous color plates and period photos of Ruhlmann designs in both furniture and decorative arts, including works in painting and other media that were chosen by Atelier Ruhlmann to complement his interior design of the Casa de Serralves. Beautiful book, most highly recommended. My last copy.

Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau 2009. 1 Volume/1. "" *********************.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. BREON, Emmanuel Book 1 Furniture [120] pp. Book 2 Interior Design [120] pp. Editions Flammarion 2004 11 1/4" x 9 3/4" Book one has chapters on Ruhlmann as the furniture, draftsman, technician and cabinetmaker. Book 2 has chapters on Ruhlmann as interior decorator, colorist and harmonist. Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, one of Europe's most influential Art Deco designers, is being celebrated in North America with a major traveling exhibition. Ruhlmann began designing at a young age and exhibited his first pieces in Paris in 1910. By 1919, he had founded his own interior design company, producing everything for the ideal home, from armoires and rugs to wallpaper and light fixtures. His early work is particularly notable for its Art Nouveau influences, and his signature pieces epitomize the best of Art Deco design. Ruhlmann, inspired by the rigorous craftsmanship of the great eighteenth-century furniture makers, had a true passion for work well done. In fact, he was so protective of his reputation that he left orders in his will for his company to be liquidated after his death, to ensure that the quality workmanship associated with the Ruhlmann name would never decline. It has not. This exquisite two volume boxed set with ribbon closures is produced in the Ruhlmann spirit, and the lavish illustrations include exquisite facsimile reproductions of his designs. Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann will be a treasured addition to the library of anyone interested in this golden age of European design.
