Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 312 pp. Black hardcover in a dustjacket. With 487 illustrations, 67 in colour. Minor edge wear to the jacket, an old price label to the rear cover and some minor toning to the leaves, else in lovely clean condition. Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann was one of the greatest and most prolific art deco interior and furniture designers. Active long before the famous Exposition des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels in Paris in 1925 (from which the name art deco derives), Ruhlmann was a tastemaker and a stylesetter working and associating with the best artists in the worlds of fashion, architecture and the decorative arts, and catering to an international clientele of diplomats, wealthy businessmen and artistocrats. Ruhlmann's pieces were designed as works of art, and even during the 1920s, one of his unique cabinets could be priced higher than the average house. His hundreds of detailed, accurate and beautiful sketches - many here reproduced - were realized in the most exacting fashion by expert craftsmen in his ateliers. In his desks, cabinets, bureaux, sideboards and tables he used rare woods; with exquisite ornamentation provided by ivory, tortoiseshell, lacquer, mirrors, silk and tooled metals. Also here included are examples of his designs for lamps, wall coverings, cigar boxes, unusually shaped beds and divans, and whole interiors - including an entire pavilion designed for the 1925 exposition. Florence Camard teaches in the Centre for the Study of the Art Object in Paris 0500234051 4to.…

Hardcover. Condition: As New. The most comprehensive and authoritative monograph to be published about the prolific master of art deco interior design. Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann (1879â"1933) was one of the most celebrated art deco interior and furniture designers. A tastemaker and a style setter, he worked and associated with the best artists in the worlds of fashion, architecture, and the decorative arts, and catered to an international clientele of diplomats, wealthy businessmen, and artistocrats. Known as "The Master of Art Deco," Ruhlmann created opulent, exquisitely designed furniture, homes, and showrooms for the Parisian beau monde in the â20s and â30s, and was known for his use of rare woods with exquisite ornamentation provided by ivory, tortoiseshell, lacquer, mirrors, silk, and tooled metals. In addition to his interiors, Ruhlmann also designed lamps, rugs, wall coverings, cigar boxes, and unusually shaped beds and divans. Today, his objects are highly sought by collectors and connoisseurs. Encompassing examples from all areas of Ruhlmannâs output, this book expands upon the authorâs previous work, originally published in 1984, and contains much new information, sketches, and drawings, and additional archival material never previously seen. This volume is the product of more than twenty years of research, and the author worked closely with the Ruhlmann family, art dealers, collectors, and curators in preparing this truly comprehensive and exhaustive monograph.…
