Notables entries include Maurice Sendak, Dr. Suess, Ludwig Bemelmans, Laurant de Brunhoff, Shirley Graham, Jean Craighead George, and Charlotte Zolotow, from whose library, although not marked as such, this book came from. She was an editor and publisher at Harper's celebrated children's books department, as well as acclaimed author of over 65 children's books. She is credited for her contributions to the Children's Liberation Movement which believed the rights and emotional concerns of children be recognized and treated as the equal of adults.

The 108 names dropped are largely in the field of the classics, e. g., Louisa M. Alcott, and the borderline group of books between adult and juvenile.
