Item Description: Robert Fraser Gallery., 1966. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 4to. Exhibition catalogue bound with a plastic clip. . 4 pink pages. 4 white pages with b&w ills. One buff page with pink lips imprint. Some ink annotations to rear cover. With the folding sheet press release from the gallery dated 20th September 1966, printed in gilt, discussing the police raid and seizure of the greater part of the works on show. With an original photograph of one of the works 'Jim Dine, Lips#6. Gouache', with extensive annotations to reverse, including trimming notes in pencil by Gordon House (who designed many of the catalogues and posters of the leading artists showing in London). In the early 1960s Dine produced pop art with items from everyday life. These provided commercial as well as critical success, but left Dine unsatisfied. In September 1966 police raided an exhibition of his work displayed at Robert Fraser's gallery in London, England. Twenty of his works were seized and Fraser was charged under the Obscene Publications Act of 1959, Dine's work was found to be indecent but not obscene and Fraser was fined 20 guineas. The following year Dine moved to London and continued to be represented by Fraser, spending the next four years developing his art. Bookseller Inventory # 020732

Item Description: Kelpra Studios., London, 1980. Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. First edition. Eye & Camera. Red,Blue,Yellow.(Levinson 317)Original Screenprint printed by Kelpra Studios in 1980. Signed in pencil, not numbered, proof pull outside the edition of 150. In excellant condition.Image size: 400 x 605 mmSheet size 600 x 750 cm.The Eye and Camera prints are complex works, not yet appreciated for their approach to the figure and to modernism. The series is based on photographs of Piperís wife Myfanwy, and presents the female figure in semi-nude poses which at first glance are suggestive of advertising imagery. It shows Piper at the forefront of Pop Art, taking up Pop Artís concern with bright colours and images from popular culture. The Eye and Camera series reduces the figure to its essential features, almost to an abstraction. Although the individual works are thematically similar, there is no repetition between them. The prints transform a photographic portrait of a nude into a more universal statement about love and the body. Bookseller Inventory # 018465
