First edition of this Pulitzer Prize-winner, accompanied by two typed letters signed by the author to Daniel Montemarano, loosely inserted. Shaara discusses the film rights for his novels and explains he has tried "four times with The Killer Angels and it hasn't worked yet". The film adaptation eventually premiered in 1993, titled Gettysburg. One of the letters is dated 14 April 1982 and the other is undated. Additionally included are two photocopied letters by Shaara to Montemarano. Octavo. Illustrated maps. Original blue boards, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Wedding anniversary gift inscription dated 1979 to front pastedown; clipping of Shaara's obituary dated 9 May 1988 loosely inserted. Spine ends bumped, light browning to endpapers; jacket price-clipped, a little rubbing and creasing: a very good copy in like jacket.
