Presumed the First Edition (No actual date of publication is given, I'm fairly certain this is also the case with the couple of other copies of this book for sale on the Internet). It appears the book had a very small printing. I purchased this one directly from the library of the former Assistant Secretary Of War and US High Commissioner of Postwar Germany, John J. McCloy. McCloy worked closely with Adenauer during his years as the US High Commissioner in Germany. McCloy's wife (maiden name Zinsser) was a distant relative of Konrad Adenauer's. McCloy did not write his name in this book. There are a nice number of photographs. One is captioned as 'President Eisenhower and a group of government leaders pose for photographs with Chancellor Adenauer at the White House.' Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson are in the photograph. Eisenhower and Adenauer are shaking hands. McCloy is right behind Adenauer. There is also a photograph captioned 'Four old friends meet as Chancellor Konrad Adenauer shakes hands with John J. McCloy, former U. S. High Commissioner to Germany, General William J. Donovan, and Dr. James B. Conant, present High Commissioner to Germany.' You can see the nicely textured green covers the in the photos. They are very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The cover edges and corners are free of wear. The book is nicely square. The binding is solid from cover to cover. The covers are solidly bound. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I haven't found any soiling. The white inside covers and end papers are also very clean. I haven't found any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I've had it in a fitted protective cover since I purchased the book a good number of years ago. There's some crinkling at the edges, also some small tears. There is a small triangular loss just off the front top edge. There are some tiny tears at the spine ends along with a little rubbing. The flaps are in solid shape, a little crinkling at the edges, a tiny crease at the top corner of the front flap. The jacket is not priced or clipped.
