Il part dans les montagnes de Carinthie en apportant un .travail important et urgent: la traduction du Ramakrishna de Romain Rolland. qui le force à reporter son travail sur Goethe pour Rieder [l'éditeur]. Pour ce faire, il le charge de demander pour lui à Robert France un délai supplémentaire. et l'invite à venir en Autriche .en auto, en avion, en chemin de fer. Traducteur de Romain Rolland, Pierre Abraham (1892-1974) débute par une activité de critique dans les journaux et revues. Il collabore à la revue Europe dès sa fondation et fait paraître plusieurs essais dont la nouveauté et l'originalité sont remarquées. Attiré par le travail collectif, il dirige une recherche en équipe en 1935 à l'Encyclopédie française. Il assura ensuite la direction de la revue Europe de 1949 à 1974.
