Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Simonson, Werner. The last judgement : an autobiography / with a foreword by the Bishop of Hertford. First edition, flat signed by the author to the title page. Gerrards Cross: Colin Smythe, 1969. Hardback, VG, in GOOD, unclipped dustjacket, heavily sunned to spine and spine edges, with light shelfwear. Black cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Binding strong. Christmas gift inscription to ffep. 181pp., b/w plates. Contents clean and bright. A powerful and most moving book that analyses from a more Christian perspective the period of history dominated by Hitler. Werner Simonson's story is extraordinary in how he and his family survived those turbulent years. Simonson, a Jew, escaped the Nazis, but was interned in this country. The then Archbishop of Canterbury petitioned for his release. He became a curate in Putney, during the war, and continued to have an active ministry in the Church of England until his death at the age of 102. Although a lawyer by profession, he turned down the chance to become a high court judge in the post Nazi period. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
