In thanking Dunwoody for his first of two lectures the Chairman said that '[Dunwoody] knew all that there was to be known about canals' - he had served on the Canal Control Committee which took over the canal companies in 1917 following some years of decline as a result of Government supporting and subsidising for the railways.
