Original publisher's green cloth - gilt embossed to the spine and to the front board. 21 illustrations as called for and a fold-out map at the rear. No inscriptions. The head and tail of the spine a little bumped and the lower front board corner bumped. A very neat 1897 gift inscription to the preliminary blank page. A little spotting to the endpapers and fore-edges - otherwise very light and very scattered elsewhere. A very good, clean, tight - bright looking company.

First edition, first printing. Very good small format in reddy-brown boards with tooling to the boards and gilt titles to the front board. No original title to the spine, suggesting this may have been worn away.

1st edition 1/2 leather Very Good large octavo xix + 444pp., b/w pls., maps, appends., bibliog., index, Signs of use & sporadic foxing o/w a nice clean tight copy VG indeed for its age. No. 62 of 250 copies on large paper.

Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Presumed First Edition. No date given but letter from author pasted onto rear ep reads 1891. Book has brown boards with gilt lettering, black design and gilt page edges. Boards have bumped corners, rubbing to edges, corners and hinges, darkening to & rubbing to lettering on spine, a little loss and fraying to cloth to head and foot of spine and some small marks to board faces. Small watermarks to edges of front and rear eps, previous owner's name on fep, bookplate on fep, light spotting to first and last few pages and interior of rear hinge a little cracked. Text tight, bright and clean, a really nice copy with the letter pasted onto rear fep. Signed by Author.
