The book is in very good condition in a good dust jacket. The book has 2 corners lightly bumped and the jacket is edge worn and clipped with 2 1/2 inch triangular pieces missing.

First Edition. 96pp, illustrated with woodcuts by the author, some in text and some full-page, green cloth with gilt spine lettering, dust jacket unclipped, torn on corners with some loss to top and bottom of spine, spine rather rubbed. Denys Watkins Pitchford MBE (1905-1990) was born at Lamport, Northamptonshire. His first book was published in 1937; Wild Lone was his second book. Over the next 50 years he wrote some 60 books of his own and illustrated another 35 by other authors. Although he used his real name for his illustrations he decided it was too long for an author which is why he adopted the psuedonym "B.B." for his writings. Size: 8.5 x 6.5 Inches. Fiction, Natural History.

Very slight dustiness top edge of the text block. No inscriptions or blemishes. The jacket is unclipped (12s 6d net) Minor edge wear and a couple of small chips. Slight creasing and short closed tears to the rear panel. A very nice example of this Watkins- Pitchford title. His love and knowledge of the English countryside especially around his native Northamptonshire shines through in his evocative b/w artwork.

Otherwise, clean, bright and unmarked. Dustwrapper has light edge and corner wear, more so to the spine ends where there is a bit of colour loss. A few tiny to short, closed edge tears. Lightly rubbed overall. Not price-clipped. Quite attractive in protective mylar. Illustrated with black and white scraperboard drawings by the author. The story of the life of a brown hare. Denys Watkins-Pitchford is known for his observant and empathetic stories and illustrations of nature and wildlife.
