The Lawes Agricultural Trust was established in 1889 by Sir John Bennet Lawes, and supports Rothamsted Research"s agricultural scientific research. William Marshall (1845-1818) published six studies on the farming practices of different regions of England from 1788 to 1798, which remain important historical resources on English agriculture. This is the instalment on the Midlands. Volume I includes information on the cultivation of crops; management of woodlands and estates; hiring staff; animal husbandry; implements and buildings; and selling at markets. Volume II continues this study with minutes on agriculture and planting from 1784 to 1785 and an index. In a half calf binding. Externally sound, with rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities, and bumping to the boards. Spine is slightly darkened. Hinges are splitting but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with the odd spot and handling mark, with more spotting to the first and last few pages. Good. book.
