Add to basketSixth edition, 2nd printing. 55 pages + 6 of ads. Inscribed by Stopes to the front endpaper: "for my Humphles" in pencil, with below in ink: "To my Humphles from my self MCS May 1921". The recipient was Humphrey Verdon Roe, Marie Stopes' second husband, who played a crucial role in her career as a sexologist and birth control campaigner, and also assisted with the initial financing of Married Love in 1918. It states "Seventh edition" to the copyright page, but this has been crossed out and hand corrected. The book is firmly bound in dark russet coloured cloth lettered and simply decorated in tarnished gilt and blind, the extremities are slightly bumped and rubbed. The text block is slightly age toned, foxed and marked, with many pages unopened. The dust jacket is the original, Stopes has noted the date "1921" in pencil to the front cover, and either Marie or Humphrey has written "HVR.", it is slightly age toned, marked and grubby, with some minor chips and several short closed tears to the edges. A superb association copy from a significant date in Stopes' career as an active campaigner for birth control; on 31st May 1921 she staged the historic Queen's Hall Meeting, marking the beginning of her widespread fame and notoriety. With excellent provenance, from the estate of Harry Verdon Stopes-Roe (Marie Stopes' son) and his wife, Mary Stopes-Roe (formerly Wallis, whose father was the engineer and scientist, Sir Barnes Neville Wallis).
