Manuel Gómez Imaz (La Habana 1844- Sevilla19212) fue eminente periodista y bibliógrafo, especializado en la Guerra de la Independencia española, además de en la historia del periodismo español. Presidió la Real Academia de Bellas Artes y Buenas Letras de Sevilla y fue miembro de la Real Academia Española. Por su parte Antonio Benítez de Lugo (Sevilla 1841-1897), jurista, escritor y catedrático de derecho, ingresó en la misma academia sevillana en 1877, con la lectura de un discurso sobre la bibliografía de la Guerra de la Independencia.
