Small 4to. Pp. (xiv), 131, Register + errata (5). With one engraved front portrait and six engraved plates. Modern half vellum on marbled paper-covered boards, black morocco title label on spine. First German edition, translated from the original English (London 1725) by F.C. Weber. John Windus participated in an expedition led by Commodore Charles Stewart in 1720 to secure a peace treaty with the emperor of Morocco, Ismail Igb Sharif. The following year a treaty between Britain and Morocco was signed at Tétouan. At that time many Europeans were imprisoned in Morocco because of piracy, but thanks to the peace agreement many English prisoners were released. This edition has a portrait of the Emperor Moulai Ismail which is not present in the original. A beautiful copy. Gay 1294. Paulitschke 692. Playfair 342.
