Size: 19 x 13 cms or 7 3/4 x 5 inches on the front. Page number: 54. A book describing the experience of the dog Caesar upon his beloved master's death. With a postcard of the King and his dog and a newspaper cutting attached to the first endpaper that announces the death of Caesar in April 1914. With one illustration by Maud Earl opposite the title page. There is a bookseller's label inside the cover; Goulding & Curry, Tunbridge Wells. Condition: Poor. The spine is missing. Both front and back boards are scarcely attached. It is also possible that a page preceding the first page of script is missing. This is often a blank page though it may carry a dedication. The binding of the book's contents remains secure. The pages are, but for some occasional light spots of foxing, still fresh and clean. The boards are slightly grubby and worn at the corners. A previous owner's name is written in ink on the first endpaper. There is no dust jacket.

First published in June, 1910 after the death of the King in May this edition published August 1910.This copy tells the story of the passing of the King's passing through his favourite dog's eyes, and has four tipped in plates of drawings and photogravure which appears to be scarce in many editions. The frontispiece of the drawing by Maude Earl is tissue guarded. The hardback cover with faded gilt image and title is stained, marked and corners bumped. Inside the book is good, though pages toned and the paste down is inscribed to and dated twice. Binding good though book has a curve. Size - 218mm x 142mm.(8vo.). Pp. 54 + illustrations.

Tall folio. In paper covered boards. Tall folio. Boards heavily rubbed, chipped away, at edges. Front board almost completely detached, rear board detached, backstrip absents, boards very worn, a few marks, etc. Previous owner's name inked onto front pastedown, also a previous bookseller's ticket. Pages a little soiled on edges, light spotting throughout and occasional marks and smudges etc. Two tissue guards absent, one detached. Edmund Lodge was a late 18th century/early 19th century antiquarian who devoted much of his career and interest to the study of heraldry and related topics, producing several works on the topic and contributing to others. He latterly became Herald of Arms in Ordinary, Norroy King of Arms at Clarenceux King of Arms, effectively second in command at the college. This is one of his rarer works, warrants and suitable for rebinding/restoration.
