Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Offering: McSweeney's. Issue 5. Two variants. SF: McSweeney's, 2000. Both books VG+. Let's talk about the DJ's. The "Simple Red Covers" are notoriously difficult to find in great shape. This glossy red dust jacket shows moderate shelf wear. Surface has visible scuffing, dull spots, and light scratches, particularly on the front and back panels. Note bottom of spine, too. The Medical Cover has a small, closed tear (3/4") to front cover and a smaller one (1/4") to the back - as well as some light shelfwear. This is a two-book lot featuring variant covers of Timothy McSweeney's Quarterly Concern Issue No. 5, published in the "very late summer" of 2000. A cornerstone of indie literary publishing, McSweeney's offered fiction, experimental fiction, essays, and illustrations from both rising stars and established voicescurated by Dave Eggers with the kind of eccentric production values that helped redefine the small press scene of the early 2000s. Included here are two versions: The "Simple Red Cover", a minimalist red board with silver textunderstated and striking. The "Medical Cover", one of the more notorious designs in the series, featuring a vintage anatomical illustration with a hauntingly altered facetext above reads: "Is staring like that why does he keep staring?" Two covers. Two books. One issue. Perfect for collectors of literary design, McSweeney's ephemera, or the "early aughts" era of indie publishing.
