Oblong 8vo. 9.2 x 6.75 in. [10 leaves (unnumbered).], thick gray-brown paper stock, w/ 10 silver gelatin photographs tipped-in, sized 4.25 x 6.75 in., each w/ printed caption below in lower right. Gray printed softcovers, brown lettering on front cover, yapp edges, punch sewn at gutter margin w/ brown silk braid (slight shelfwear), NF copy. First edition of this beautifully printed photographic souvenir for Merano, this beautiful spa town in Tirol which was ceded to Italy after the 1919 Treaty of Versailles following World War I. Sheltered in a high Dolomite mountain valley, the town features easy access to excellent skiing, hiking, and is still known for its therapeutic waters and its "grape cure" which consists of eating the grapes grown on the surrounding hillsides. These images provide splendid views of the narrow streets of Merano, the Neoclassical spa and buildings, many Art Nouveau Buildings, as well as the aerial tramway between the World Wars. Baehrendt is perhaps best remembered for his many photographic and printed souvenir postcards purchased by generations of tourists in Merano from the 1920s up to World War II. No copies located in Worldcat.
