Box, Gary Phillips, and by Joe Lansdale on page 186. A First Edition with a complete numberline. 8vo. - over 7 3/4 in. - 9 3/4 in. // 'Thrilling crime stories about cars, driving, and the road from the world's bestselling and critically acclaimed writers. Like fiction, cars take us into a different world: from the tony enclaves of upper crust society to the lowliest barrio; from muscle car-driving con men to hardscrabble kids on the road during the Great Depression; from a psychotic traveling salesman to a Mexican drug lord who drives a tricked-out VW Bus. We all share the roads, and our cars link us together. Including entirely new stories from Michael Connelly, C.J. Box, George Pelecanos, Diana Gabaldon, James Sallis, Ace Atkins, Luis Alberto Urrea, Sara Gran, Ben H. Winters, and Joe Lansdale, The Highway Kind is a street-level look at modern America, as seen through one of its national obsessions.' -- publisher.

JW consignment. Shelved above US History. Michael Connelly was born July 21, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents were great influences on his career, his father encouraging him greatly to succeed his mother introducing him to the mystery novel genre. Connelly would enter into the journalism world in 1980, beginning in the Daytona Beach News-Journal before moving to the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel where he covered the cocaine wars from 1981-1986. After earning a Pulitzer Prize in 1985, Connelly would move to Los Angeles to work as a crime reporter. It was during his time in LA Connelly began work on his first published novel; "The Black Echo". "The Black Echo" released to great critical praise, earning the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best first Novel. It was based partially on a real crime and featured the iconic Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch, who Connelly himself claims shares several similarities to the author. Harry Bosch is named such for Hieronymus Bosch, the Dutch painter known for his paintings full of sin, Connelly himself describing his characters as paints floating across the canvas of his novels, bound to collide and cross currents to create the full work. Connelly's works as a whole have been very well received, "The Concrete Blonde" being carried out of a bookstore by then President Bill Clinton and "Blood Work" being made into a movie by and starring Clint Eastwood. A number of Connelly's books would feature characters beyond Bosch, the first being "The Poet" featuring Jack McEvoy, but would also notably include "Blood Work" and "Void Moon". As his writing went on, Connelly began to overlap his characters, often tying them together with Bosch. As Bosch and other characters began to intermingle across the various novels, they came as a whole to be known as the "Bosch Universe" due to the character's central role in a great many of the entries. 1385040.
