Brett-Smith, an Oxford don and renowned book-collector, was the literary editor for the Shakespeare Head Press; much of his academic work, as well as his original verse (as here, preceded by 'Poems of the North') was published by Blackwell's. This book is scarce: the Bodleian only on JiscHub; WorldCat does not add any holdings. It consists of four poems, including experiments with medieval verse-forms, ending with 'Maestitia Senectutis', an amusing series of observations on the commencement of the academic year.…
