The first blank page has a 2" separation, which is holding, and does not affect the hinge. Some mild rubbing at edges. A manual of practical information covering shotguns, rifles, ammunition, game shooting, and wild fowl shooting in England and abroad. With a chapter on the Sportswoman: Her Rationale in the Field and her equipment, and Ladies in the field. Quite unique thus. The author was an experienced wildfowler and game shot and an acknowledged expert on game guns, big bore guns and their associated ammunition and loads. He is perhaps best know for his THE GUN AFIELD and AFLOAT. This scarce volume was first published in London 1904, and is considered one of the foremost books on wildfowling and game shooting of its time.

First edition of this excellent work which details the evolution of the shotgun, from flintlock to hammerless ejector, as well as Express Rifles, ball and shoguns, sporting bullets, shooting in Europe and Great Britain. Of particular interest are the chapters by Henry on the increase of women shooting and hunting, with specifications for women's shotguns, shotgun loads, and shape of grip. Mary Russell, Duchess of Bedford (1865-1937) was a noted ornithologist, hunter, one of the first Western women to study jujitsu, and later became noted aviator with record breaking flights to Karachi and Cape Town.
