Shallow creasing to bottom page ends for first 80 pages. Interior clean and binding solid. Jacket unclipped ($5.95) with puncture towards top of rear panel near spine and horizontal stripe staining to top and bottom of jacket from old jacket protector used. Some fading to type on spine except where call sticker was carefully removed. A few light scrapes/scuffs and short tear to bottom of rear panel at spine. 1st Printing.

First edition. 233pp. Octavo [22 cm] Tan cloth over boards with a lavender ink stamped design on the spine, and a small illustration of a rat with a leaf on the front board. "First Edition" stated on copyright page. The spine is moderately rolled. Several pages have trivial soiling. In a price-clipped dust jacket, with sporadic shallow open tears to the edges, several vertical creases to the inside flaps, and subtle toning. The front panel has a bit of minor soiling. No Newbery Award sticker. Illustrated by Zena Bernstein. The author, Robert C. O'Brien was born in New York City and grew up in a family of Irish storytellers. A children's classic, winner of the Newbery Medal.

Condition: Very Good. First Edition. First edition stated, first printing. Near Fine, in a Very Good dust jacket with price of $5.95 intact, and with no Newbery Medal present. Light lean to spine. Dust jacket shows light toning, and two short tears to the top of the front panel (1 inch and 1/4 inch long), with some associated creasing. The front flap is creased along the edge, and has a rubber stamp at the bottom reading "Material Center Central Office May 5 71". A rather nice copy of this difficult to obtain Newbery medal winner.
