Mit der Ausstellung "Das Virtuelle im Konkreten" setzt das Clemens Sels Museum Neuss seine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit der Künstlerin fort. Bereits 2012 hat Rita Rohlfing mit "mapping the city" (S. 12-15) eine temporäre Bodenarbeit zum 100. Geburtstag des Hauses konzipiert und auf der angrenzenden Rasenfläche im Außenraum realisiert. Anhand des Stadtplans von Neuss hat sie ein riesiges abstraktes Zeichen aus magentafarbenen Teppichbahnen geschaffen, dem die historische Achse zwischen den Standorten des alten Museums am Markt und des Neubaus am Obertor zugrunde lag. Sehr wirkungsvoll hat Rohlfing damals Vergangenheit und Gegenwart verbunden und der Historie des Museums einen zeitgenössischen Ausdruck verliehen. Die temporäre Außenarbeit sollte den Auftakt für ihre Einzelausstellung bilden, die jedoch wegen der Sanierung des Clemens Sels Museums Neuss verschoben werden musste. Die weitreichende Neugestaltung der Räume und die Installation einer modernen Lichtanlage erlauben eine deutlich bessere Präsentation und Wirkungsweise der Arbeiten von Rita Rohlfing. Während der Sanierung hat die Künstlerin ihr ortsspezifisches Konzept weiterentwickelt. Es umfasst nun 19 Kunstwerke, von denen allein 11 eigens für "Das Virtuelle im Konkreten" geschaffen wurden. Neben der ersten Projektion von Rohlfing überhaupt - "the Virtual in the concrete" (S. 7) - im Treppenhaus sind die Installation "ANSCHEINEND" (S. 42) im Gartensaal, die Wandarbeit "metallica" (S. 16) ebenso wie die acht Fotografien im Foyer (S. 9) und im Zwischengeschoss (S. 92) für die Neusser Ausstellung entstanden.
