The plate titled 'Delusions of a Sick Brain' is missing. All contents otherwise complete and securely bound, although with occasional glimpses of binding, some grubby marks and minor creasing. 320pp + 32pp adverts for 'Blackie & Son's Illustrated Story Books', a section which includes a superb full-page monochrome photographic portrait of 'The Late G. A. Henty' set among several pages advertising his works. There are also several pages with monochrome reproductions of illustrations from his, and others' books. Also laid in a contemporary advertising leaf for 'The World of Animal Life'. A very attracive chunky octavo, with dark green cloth boards illustrated as shown, with the Hertfordshire crest to rear panel and a Prize label to front pastedown - all bright, clean and complete. Some bumping and incipient fraying commensurate with age, but no significant damage. A very attractive and interesting copy. Scarce thus. PLEASE SEE FIVE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES. No Jacket. 1st Edition. presumably the first American Edition as no other printings are listed; most probably published in the 1870s or 1880s based upon the existence of the Scribner and Welford publishing company which ultimately becomes Scribner's. A very tight clean book which has boards decorated in grey, maroon and gilt showing Nat aiming his gun. although the interior are tight and clean except for page aging the front board is loose and the spine label is missing ; the corners are bumped and there is also a very small area on the front board which looks like a very small stick on label has been removed still a quite attractive book with edges stained grey to match color on cloth boards. there is also a 32 page catelogue at the end listing Scribner and Welford's catalogue of books for young people.
