The books are pristine; in a good publisher's slipcase (case has heavy rubbing; lacks outer back panel). Ilustrated By Edward Ardizzone. Monthly letter, Number Eight, and Ardizzone's 'The Illustrated Illustrator' pamphlet laid in loose.

Small scrape to the spine of volume II. As in all copies, there is some very dull wrinkling to a few of the plates (probably from the stencilled watercolor used to color the illustrations). In the publsiher's slipcase, very good, with some partial splits and mild edgewear. The top interior panel of the slipcase is partly loosened, but still in place. One of 1500 limited sets SIGNED by Ardizzone on the limitation page.

Only Fifteen hundred copies were printed of which this is copy number 1274. Printed at the University Press in Cambridge, England. Fine Illustrations. The illustrator has signed the book on the limitation page. The book is bound in a Gorgeous pictorial cloth. The volumes are in Very Good+ condition and would be fine but there appears to be some slight rippling of the pages in the first volume, primarily to the plate pages. It's matching slipcase shows shelf-wear with some chipping and small loss of paper, particularly to the opening perimeter of the box. The box is very good- at best. The Limited Editions Club was founded in 1929. It was the creation of George Macy. Its purpose was to create very high quality versions of the classics that were also illustrated by the finest contemporary artists. All Limited Edition Club books are hand signed by the illustrators with a short description of the making of the book on the colophon in the rear of the volume. Only a few were published without a signature because the illustrator had passed away before publication.
