George Louis Palmella Busson du Maurier (1834 - 1896) was a Franco-British cartoonist and writer known for his work in Punch and for his Gothic novel Trilby, which featured the character Svengali. He was the father of the actor Sir Gerald du Maurier and grandfather of the writers Angela du Maurier and Dame Daphne du Maurier and artist Jeanne du Maurier.

Condition: Fair. 1947. First Omnibus Edition. 726 pages. Illustrated jacket over blue cloth. Introductions by John Masefield and Daphne du Maurier. Illustrated in B&W. Pages are rather marked with pronounced tanning and foxing, plus thumbing. Gutters somewhat cracked with some exposed netting. Binding slightly loose. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Some creasing to rear endpaper, pastedown. Block edges very tanned, foxed; with scratches and nicks. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Boards a little rubbed and marked overall. Boards are notably bowed. Spine is slightly sunned. Clipped jacket has some edgewear with chips, tears and creasing. Jacket is slightly rubbed and marked overall. Jacket highly foxed overall, especially rear panel.

The Heritage Press operated from 1937 - 1982 and was created by George Macy, who managed with editors the reprinting of volumes from the Limited Editions Club, thus enabling fine printing exemplars to trickle down to a broader public still thirsty, newly thirsty, for classic nineteenth-century novels and biographies. This oversized, Imperial octavo format hardcover examplar, has been beautifully illustrated by the author.
